The problem
Our SME noticed that many students around the world, especially in rural and impoverished areas, cannot easily gain access to high quality tutors to learn the Qur’an. We sought to build a platform that connects these tutors to these students for free or at a very low cost.
The solution
We devised to make a product that utilized human matchmakers that could put potential couples together. This is a tried-and-true method that has been used for over a thousand years to match most Muslim couples.
Step 1
Competitive Analysis
Understanding if our concept could "fit" within the Muslim romance application space was a critical first step. I downloaded more than 10 dating and marriage apps, most of which were geared towards Muslims, and went through them in pain-staking detail.
Only one other app utilizes human matchmakers as a paid extra feature. Many of the apps designed to help Muslims get married are simply reskins of Tinder. This insight allowed us to determine that we could be onto something that doesn't already exist.

Step 2
Conducting User Research
I then asked matchmakers in my community to serve as SMEs for Deeny’s design journey. I also interviewed potential users and extracted a plethora of information via user interviews and surveys.
I made the following two personas to guide Deeny’s journey.

Step 3
Wireframing
It then became time to start wireframing. I built a simple Design System for us via Brad Frost's Atomic Design methodology to maintain our components. I incorporated direct quotes from users that I obtained via user interviews to make the following features.

High Fidelity Designs

Step 4
Development
Deeny is currently under development! I’m learning CSS and HTML to do all of the frontend while working with a backend developer, and an AI expert, to solve all of the technical nuances.

The problem
Our team saw a problem in the Muslim community in NYC: many Muslims struggle to find suitable partners for marriage, and many of these candidates express frustration with contemporary solutions designed to help Muslims get married.
